[Character]: Aoko Nakamori

[Age]: 17
[Canon Point]: post-chapter 30 (The Phantom Lady), so after the most recent MK chapter

[History]: Aoko-specific wiki | Series wiki

[Personality]: In the world of Magic Kaito, Aoko is your typical, normal high school student amid a class full of magicians/international thieves, witches, and detective prodigies. And she feels it. Even if she's unaware that two-thirds of those characters are even present in her class, thanks to being pretty much kept out of the loop, she has a tendency to look down on herself. She's not the prettiest girl around (she's pretty sure that title goes to Akako), nor is she the smartest kid in the class (her best friend has an IQ of 400, supposedly), and she doesn't have any particularly amazing talents.

Her home life has not helped her feelings of inadequacy, either. As the only child of a workaholic father, she feels his absence pretty strongly when he opts to chase after Kaitou Kid instead of staying home with her on occasions such as her birthday. She loves her father dearly, and supports him in his efforts to catch the thief, but it's clear that his enthusiasm for his job leaves his family on the backburner. There are also times where she feels like her best friend doesn't really care.

And yet, despite her occasional moments of depression, she's generally a pretty cheery and plucky girl. While she is pretty insecure on the inside, she doesn't allow it to get her down; she's a pretty optimistic and cheerful person on the whole. She keeps a decent circle of friends at school, as shown by the female friends she has over for her birthday party, and she's easily excited by things like winning contests (even ones she doesn't remember entering).

She's much more interesting than she gives herself credit for, as well. Aoko isn't just a cute classmate of Kaito's; more often than not, she's a loud and feisty individual. She can generally give as good as she gets, both in verbal sparring and physical activity. She's not above yelling at someone for being stupid or perverted, and she is able to dig in her heels and be incredibly stubborn when she wants to be. Part of this loud and feisty nature of hers stems from the fact that she's a pretty passionate person; she just feels emotions strongly, from anger to happiness to sorrow. Granted, anger's one of the easier emotions for her to express, especially when compared to embarrassment or something related, but that is due in part to her tsundere nature. She isn't very good at expressing emotions of affection, especially romantic ones.

She's also very smart. Aoko's able to keep up with her classes even in the midst of antics with her best friend, and she's able to hold her own in a battle of wits as well. Along with general book smarts, Aoko has a pretty pragmatic side to her - she will point out the errors in her dad's thought processes sometimes, in an effort to force him to think more realistically. When he comments that Kid would never chop off his finger in order to steal a precious ring that he's wearing, she responds by wondering if another thief would be so considerate. It worries Nakamori a bit, but it forces him to consider the fact that Kaitou Kid, his area of expertise, does not always apply to other thieves.

In contrast, Aoko has a pretty childish nature at times. She speaks in third-person, which is considered to be a speech pattern reserved for young children. She also isn't above imitating people, sticking her tongue out, or teasing others, all of which contribute to this childish image of hers. Her youthful features don't help her case any, even though she is 17 years old. This side of her is present most often around Kaito, in part because he has a tendency to tease her in a childish manner as well, but it can come out with others as well.

Most notably, however, Aoko's a kind person who is loyal to those she truly cares about. She'd be willing to help out someone in need, and she feels strong empathy for others. For all her blustering and inability to outright admit she cares about certain people, she expresses it through her actions - she admits that the main reason she partnered with a random classmate during the skiing competition was so that Kaito could win and get the glory he deserved. She wanted him to be happy, even if it meant that she didn't enjoy the competition as much. Even when she calls his magic tricks stupid to his face, Aoko goes home and raves about them to her father - she just has difficulty expressing outright gentility to those closest to her. For all her teasing - whether poking good-naturedly at Akako's feelings for Kaito or shoving a giant fish in her best friend's face - it's clear that she values her friends very much and wants them to be happy.

One last thing that's important to consider with Aoko is her strong belief in the letter of the law. Doing something bad makes you a bad person, especially if you're just doing it for the fun of it. Aoko can't imagine why Kaitou Kid feels the need to steal and make a fool out of her father, and she swears that she'll never forgive him for it. This mentality is likely at least partially derived from her dad's perspective; he himself expresses incredulity when he hears that Hakuba asks criminals for their motives, saying that it doesn't matter why a criminal does something because a criminal can never have a good reason for committing a crime. Aoko's perspective is slightly less rigid than her father's, but she's still pretty stringent on following the laws and holds generally to a black-and-white view of morality. This is helped by her rather sheltered nature - while her father is a police officer, she's never been in a bad situation where she's had to choose between shades of grey. Her dad chases after a pacifistic thief, and so he's never even really been hurt on the job. She's never been exposed to murderers or anything like that, so it's easy for her to see all crimes as simply bad, rather than trying to put them on a spectrum or anything.

[Abilities/Powers]:
Aoko's pretty good at cooking and cleaning and is of above-average intelligence. She's also quite physically capable for a teenage girl and has a fair amount of artistic talent, but that's about it! No special powers or abilities here. o/

[Position]: Custodian
[Why this position?]: In canon, she's shown to be quite handy with a mop (it's often her weapon of choice, when Kaito angers her), but it's also implied that she's pretty good at cleaning and taking care of the house since her father's always so busy. Custodian would definitely fit within her wheelhouse...and it will probably also give her stuff to rant about, because seriously, why are people so messy? Also, she's a hard worker - even if she's doing thankless work like cleaning. Someone has to, after all.

It's December already?  [ She seems...overly excited by this. ] That means that Christmas is almost here!

[ And, clearly, someone's already in the Christmas spirit. Hey, it never hurts to start planning early....and on that note: ]

Every year, Aoko throws a Christmas Eve party at her house. I want to do that again this year, even if most of my friends are still back home.

So~ that means that anyone who is interested can come, especially if you like Christmas!  There will be food, poppers, party hats, Christmas music...all sorts of fun things! We can maybe even do a gift-exchange thing, if enough people are interested.

[ Big smile. Throwing this party is one of her favorite things about Christmas~ ]

I hope to see some of you there!

....Aoko was wet.

More importantly, Aoko was wet and not where she was supposed to be. In fact, she didn't recognize this place at all - not only was it not the high school, but it wasn't anywhere nearby, as far as she knew.

Instinctively, she could feel her hands balling into fists. There was only one person Aoko knew who'd pull something like this, and on her of all people...she growled out his name in her most-angry voice, lamenting the lack of a nearby mop. Then again, if Kaito had planned this, he'd probably hidden any away so as to give himself a better head-start. Cheater.

Although...this was a pretty elaborate prank, even for Kaito. Sure, he'd gone as far as to hire a crane for one of his stupid magic tricks, but this was basically kidnapping. Not to mention that she hadn't heard a peep from him yet, and if he'd really arranged something this complex, he'd probably have bragged about it by now. And out of all the places he was liable to drag her to, an underwater-themed park or whatever seemed a bit unlikely.

Still. Considering the number of odd things he'd gotten her involved in over the years, it wasn't a bad guess to assume he was involved in some way. Not to mention that she'd probably manage to get in a few hits if she was fast enough...if she couldn't find out who else was behind all this, he wouldn't make a half-bad scapegoat.

(And it was easier, to focus on how badly she'd whack him with her mop for this, than it was to even entertain the thought that she was alone here in this strange place.)

[Anything else?]: Personality was recycled from an old app as well!
